What Minus-Zero Is
The Minus-Zero Project is an independent software project rooted in punk, DIY and underground electronic music. Our philosophy is simple: build the instruments we wish existed.
We are not interested in reproducing familiar products with different interfaces. We want to understand the technology behind them, question its limits, write our own algorithms, and find new ways to design sound, sequence and perform.
We use technical language to describe the human condition. Latency is not only a delay in a signal. Overflow is not only a computational event. Negative Space is the silence between sounds, and it is also absence. We let both meanings stand.
Our instruments may look simple, even plain. That is deliberate. Beneath the surface are intricate algorithms and connected systems. An instrument should be approachable at first contact and reward you the longer you play it.
We build with AI-assisted tools, Claude among them, the way a studio uses a circuit-bent synth nobody expected to need. The instrument does not determine the music. The artist does. We stay accountable for what we release and what we ask musicians to trust.
The technology is available. What you do with it is the art.
